F1 crash

Tweaked my setup again. Switch the rear to gunmetal pistol and changed my footwear to vibram 5 toes wear. Felt like walking on barefoot. This forces me to change my style of pushing. Usuall, I use my heels to push and now I am starting to develop Achilles heel. Have to switch to using the ball of my feet. Pumping and pushing on my vibram wear felt like skating on barefoot but with additional protection.

Wokeup early to skate to bedok army camp for remedial training (every singaporean men have to take a fitness test yearly, if fail, you are sent for 20 sessions of RT) well, I skip IPPT fitness test so I have to attend 20 sessions of RT. At least I got excuse to skate.

On the way, I skated past a 69 year old man who was cruising on a sector 9. Stopped to have a chat with him. Uncle des just started longboarding 4 months ago, he used to cycle but he find longboard way cooler and great way to workout. Wonder when I am his age, will I still be able to do this? Salute him

Later in the day, joshua asked me out for cycle skate. We tried a new route to east coast park. At beginning of bedok park connector, there is a wicked slope which I fell last time. It look harmless and I bombed steeper and longer hills before. But that is the thing. At the end of slope, it is a tight turn, or it will be straight crash into canal.

I skated down the slope, bottom of it, 2 cyclists appeared. To avoid them, I forget my swerve, so crash straight and smash my right body into metal rails. Thank god, I got a helmet, the consequence will be dire. End up with bloody leg and numb right arm.
Always wear helmet no matter what you are doing.

Jalan Kayu - shame of road bikers

Sat night, just got a text from Joshua after my petanque session, asking if want to skate cycle again. Of course, what is 30 40 km skate now after 100km skate around singapore. Started at pasir ris after burger king dinner. Found a new shortcut to farmway 3, is a narrow path beside the canal and there is no lights. Thank god, there is joshua headlight on his bike.

Reached punggol waterway, showed him to path which led to the islands off punggol then went straight down at seletar link to jalan kayu for supper. Since is our first time to there, is unfamiliar, naturally we got lost and spent some time finding our supper place.

Just had banana split and drinks, and watched arsenal thrashed sunderland 3-1. Honestly, arsenal was let off by sunderland poor finishing and lucky referee decision.

Headed home, this time we skipped the islands and went on seng kang park connector then to punggol. It was a great night. Clearly, longboards are meant to travel long distance.

As joshua said, his dirt bike made those road bikers look stupid and my longboard made them look even stupider. Just looking at the gashed faces of road bikers staring and passing by us is priceless. A pair of longboarder and dirt biker can just put them to shame

Standup slide

Is Friday, my skate slide night with pals at Marina bay sands. Practise coleman slide with no grab rails. Realised that standies is just like coleman without using gloves. Put that to practise. Nailed it, just need to stand on board and lean more.

Mission Accomplished 100km skate around singapore

Yes I did it! Skate 100km around Singapore last sun.
Sorry My dear readers for missing out the updates. Been resting and chilling since my 100km skate.

Almost cancelled the skate due to the heavy rain. Woke up to heavy downpour, surely not going to risk my life. Thought of postponing to the following week.  At 4pm, received a text from Nadya, asking where am I? Looking at the road condition, it already dried up, safe to skate, I asked her if she like to join me in my journey. Anyway, she lives in woodlands, which is my first pit stop. Arrange to meet at her place. Set off at about 5pm.

Reached woodlands faster than my normal timing.  Maybe the scent of what she is cooking drives me faster. Hearty serving of Fried rice with fried chicken and eggs is all it takes to replenish my energy for remaining 70 km. Too bad, her bike tyre is punctured and since is sun, bike shops are closed, she can't get replacements. Once again I am off alone. She warned me about the route to jurong east. It will be tough as in heavy traffic and lots of hill. To make matters worse, it started drizzling. Since I am bent in completing my journey, I just have to press on.

The journey to jurong is pretty hilly but when there is an uphill, there is always a downhill. Traffic relegated me to skate on sidewalk till traffic lessen up as the night persist on.
By bukit panjang, I am on a down gradient to jurong, makes it fun. Found the cycle path, and started pumping as the chinaman on his bike stared in bewilderment as I was matching to his speed just by pumping. He tried to shake me off by pedalling faster but failed.

Arrived at jurong and stopped for drinks to replenish energy. 55km more to go. The rain just got heavier. No choice but to press on. I ain't going to restart the journey on another day.

Skated on west coast highway, it is pretty empty at this time of the night except few passing cars and trucks. Continued on to east coast park then to changi, found my pumping groove and sped off to finish at 3.48 am. Takes 10 hours including 2 hours dinner break at nadya's,  so 8 hours in longboard is a good time.

Push for hope

This 8 september 2013 sunday , I will be skating 100 km around singapore in support of METTA. Metta is a buddhist organisation that run various charity programs. One of them is Metta school for intellectually disability, which I am teaching in now.

Working in special education for 5 years, there is no other job I would switch to. Even if my job does not pay that well, though I can travel to many countries during school holidays.
Working as special education teacher has given me a lot. I learnt to have hope from my kids. They taught me, you can lose everything, but you can't lose hope. Without it, life brcome so mandane and meaningless. Therefore, I dedicate This fund raising event to them.

I will skate 100km around singapore, starting from my home. I will skate to pasir ris - punggol - woodlands - jurong east - pasir panjang - vivocity - marina bay sands - east coast park. - changi - pasir ris - home the finish

Please support me and Metta.

Project Green

I love Green. I don't know why since birth, I have lust for green. So what to do with my bomberman. Simple, turn him to Green bomb. Spray paint the brackets and trucks Green. Took an afternoon and it turn out well. Look like I am ready for this sun Push for hope 100km

Gbomb setup

Felt strange pumping on my gbomb during East coast skate, so the next day I rushed to Gary's love shop to get gunmetal pistol trucks. In singapore, no shop sell bennett and tracker. Next best option is gunmetal pistol tkp. Got a set of abec11 97mm flywheels. Man, it is huge. Larger than my ahem, palm I mean.

Installed onto my gbomb and tried it out. Pumping felt better but pushing it is still prefered for long distance. I should name it the BOMBERMAN.

Brought this for my slide session with the crew. Surprisingly, I can coleman slide on bomberman relatively easy and much smoother than my greenie.
